Intramurals at ISNHS are a highlight of the school year, where students come together to showcase their athletic talents and sportsmanship. The annual event brings a vibrant energy to the campus, with participants from various grade levels competing in a wide array of sports. From traditional games like basketball and volleyball to more dynamic events like track and field, the intramurals provide a platform for students to bond, develop teamwork skills, and display their competitive spirit. It’s a time when students can break away from their academic routines and focus on physical activity while fostering school pride.

Among the sports featured in the intramurals, basketball often steals the spotlight with intense matches that have the whole school cheering from the sidelines. Volleyball is another favorite, promoting cooperation and quick reflexes among teammates. The track and field events are a crowd favorite as well, showcasing the incredible speed and endurance of our athletes. Whether it’s a fast-paced sprint or a strategic relay race, the atmosphere is electric, filled with excitement and support from classmates, friends, and teachers alike.

Beyond the competition, the intramurals also promote inclusivity, allowing students of all skill levels to participate. The event is not just about winning, but about personal growth, learning the value of hard work, and building lasting friendships. Students can also explore new sports they may not have considered before, helping them discover hidden talents and interests. The intramurals at ISNHS are a true testament to the school’s commitment to holistic student development, blending fun, fitness, and a sense of community.

Climate Chane and Resiliency of Filipinos - Q2

RESILIENCY OF FILIPINOS CAN'T BE COMPARED

 https://fulcrum.sg/reclaiming-the-resilient-filipino-from-romanticised-climate-narratives-towards-resilience-focused-climate-policy-in-the-philippines/

The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, positioned along the "typhoon belt" and within the Pacific Ring of Fire , making it highly vulnerable to several catastrophic events, including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and typhoons .

Interestingly, despite experiencing the highest frequency of disasters, the Philippines achieved the highest resilience score in the Lloyd's Register Foundation (LRF) and the Gallup World Risk Poll (WRP) for 2021, a comprehensive worldwide survey on risk perception, experience, and perceived resilience across a wide range of potential threats

This archipelagic country has also consistently ranked as the world's most at-risk nation for the past 16 years, with a World Risk Index score of 46.91, the highest among 193 countries surveyed and consequently, has ranked among the most impacted by disasters from 1900 to 2015 in terms of occurrence (4th) and damages (19th, estimated at USD 25B.

This trend demonstrates a "risk perception paradox", where high risk perception and resilience scores do not necessarily equate to immunity from disaster impacts.

A country's resilience reflects the capacity of its population to deal with disaster risk. As a function of the population's exposure, vulnerability and ability or capacity, risk has a dynamic or reciprocal relationship with resilience.

Understanding perceived risk and resilience in high-risk countries, such as the Philippines therefore offers valuable insights into their relationship and dimensions, enabling better disaster risk reduction and informed decision-making. This understanding can also serve as a model for addressing growing disaster risks worldwide.
